Turn Old Door Knobs Into Fun Wine Toppers

Turn Old Door Knobs into Fancy Wine Toppers

Great gift - wine toppers from old doorknobs

Obviously, the first thing you need are some old doorknobs. Then you need to buy these little corks. I bought them at Michael's Crafts. Then you need some bits and bobs - maybe lace, pearls, shells, etc. to decorate the door knobs.

Another thing you need are these corks. They are much smaller than the one that you are going to pull out of the wine bottle, but they fit perfectly.

Each door knob was decorated a little differently. I went through drawers to find "stuff" to decorate the knobs with and that was really fun. I thought about gluing pennies all around but it didn't seem feasible. Anyway, you only decorate the stem of the door knob, not the door knob itself. Well, I guess you COULD decorate the door knob, too. Oh, the possibilities!

The first thing to do is glue the base of the door knob to the widest part of the cork. I used Fabri-Tac - my favorite glue, but you could use hot glue and then you could do the entire project in only a few minutes!

With the glass door knob I wound jute string around and around the base and then glued on small shells for interest. I glued on some tiny gems, too, because they were in with the shell container. :)

With the black knob I wound around some string craft pearls and layered on some gold trim.

And for the really OLD knob - I wound some gold Christmas trim around it.

So, what do you think? Do YOU have an old knob laying around doing nothing? Find a small cork (or buy some) and go at it with any manner of embellishments. I hope you do and have some fun in the process.

I gave my sister-in-law the glass knob as she was here at the time I took pictures of this project. She was thrilled! So maybe it might be great little gifts, too. Fun gifts.
