Pink Cakeplate Makeover
and
Valentine Tray Blog Tour
Katherine of Katherine's Corner is hosting a Blog Tour of Valentine Trays for your inspiration. My "tray" is an old cakeplate that I make over every once in a while. (see below for how I paint and embellish). Then I put some yummy looking treats on my cakeplate. Hope you are inspired also.

The Facebook Pinterest Challenge Group is exactly that. The challenge for this month is to take
something from the kitchen and redo it. I redid a plain, old cake plate into a prettied up pink cake plate. I painted the base of the cake plate and the knob on the top a pretty pink color. I added a fluffy bow to the knob. Done. I could probably have painted something on the front of the cover (just thinking of that now) but anyway, here it is.
Here is how the cake plate looks now. The cover is in the background.
This one at Walmart is very nearly the same.
Just an aside here.. I painted this cakeplate before and the paint washed right off when I was done with it. Yay! I can do this over and over....
Below see cakeplate as it was for Easter.
I painted the base and the knob a pretty light pink color with craft acrylic paint.
Here's the painted knob. Then I added a bow.
I had this little ceramic bowl that I put underneath a plate to add another layer. As you can see I had a lot of fun with paper doilies. I loved paper doilies as a child. I used to color them with crayons and have all sorts of fun with them.
Then I added one final higher layer so the top cupcake would sit by itself by putting a clear glass jar on the second plate. It's a tiered tray now and believe it or not the dome fits on top without crushing the top cupcake!
Here are the final layers altogether with cupcakes from Target and Valentine candies from Target, also. Lol.
These pink spoons were bought on Amazon and they are color changing with temperature. Some of these spoons, depending on which ones you get, turn color when they are cold like if you put them in ice or ice cream. These change with heat so like with hot tea or coffee. Love 'em.
These are the pinkest cupcakes I've ever seen!
The way it looked on the table. My sister gave me these red heart placemats last Valentine's Day.
In the background on the wall is a painting that I did years ago. The hand got messed up and I never fixed it. My sister and I tried our hand at painting some Monet paintings. We had an incredible instructor who was an Impressionist artist himself.
If you're wondering about the painting on the window in the background.. I painted that with acrylics some years ago and it has stayed fine. I wash the window all around the flowers and bird. ha ha
Here is the cakeplate with Valentine cards I'm making. I should have made these earlier.
They were SO MUCH FUN!!!
Here is the cakeplate with the glass dome.

This is the prettiest thing in all pretty land! Can I come round for tea and a cake?
ReplyDeleteThe way you have layered this up is so clever, when you are finished everything can pack away easily till next time. And to just temporarily paint the stand then wash it off is brilliant, your friends will think you have dozens of cake stands!
Hahaha. Right? I didn't decorate it for Christmas but I could have, huh? It's hard to pack this away because it's so darn large so it sits out around the dining room or kitchen most of the time. I need some fake cupcakes or cakes to go in it. Lol. When I bake I throw something in it and it looks so pretty. I think I can let my husband eat the Valentine cupcakes now. hahhaha Thanks for the wonderful challenge, Julie.
DeleteI love your cake plate makeover and the fact that it can done over and over again. I'll be watching for the Spring version!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ann. I guess that would be Easter? Or maybe Spring with some birdnest stuff. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteIt looks just perfect for Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the conversation.. best wishes for Valentine's Day.
DeleteWhat fun! Love the placemats and the very pink cupcakes. I like the tiered tray effect, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lydia. I never bought one of those cute tiered trays but they are fun to look at and I'll bet fun to decorate, too. Best wishes for Valentine's.
DeleteYour pink cake plate is too cute and adorable, Linda! And you're certainly getting lots of ways to re-make it over and over! That's fabulous! I'm curious as to the type of paint you use to be able to just wash it off each time. I might have to try that! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHi, Gail. I'm such a fan of your blog and your super creative inspirations. I just use the little acrylic paints that come in the little bottles at Michael's or Joann's. Nothing special. Oh, these wash right off of glass with hot water and soap, not so much with clothes though. Don't ask me how I know. ha ha One time I put little acrylic paint dots on my kitchen window to depict snow. It came right off after Christmas. Oh, the longer the paint stays on the harder it is to get off but it does still come off. Best wishes
DeleteThis makes an adorable Valentine's Day centerpiece! I love that you can paint it and wash it off to use for the next holiday. Such a cute idea. I'd love for you to come share it on Crafty Creators Link Party on Thursday (thru Monday) because I think our readers would love it too! Happy hopping with you!

ReplyDeleteThanks Allyson. It was one of my better projects. As you know everything doesn't turn out perfectly. I had a few flops at Christmas. Oh, well. Onward and upward... to more crafting. Best wishes, Linda

Wow you have out done yourself ! Such a beautiful cake tray. All the treats look so yummy. I just posted mine love if you can stop by.
ReplyDeletePerfectly pink and such a lovely way to serve treats. A fun tray for the tour my friend. You did a wonderful job with the cake plate. Thank you for joining in the fun. Happy Valentine's Day xo
ReplyDeleteLove your tray Linda. What a great makeover! The only problem is that now I'm going through the kitchen looking for sweets! Everything looks so yummy! Great touring with you and Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteThis is just the cutest idea for a cakeplate ever. The fact that you can wash the paint off so it can be decorated for other occasions is amazing. Love the idea of the second "tier" using a glass plate. It's all adorable and a really fun idea. AND your window is so precious, just lovely! Happy Valentine's weekend!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty Linda! I love the big pink bow! Nothing could be better for Valentine's day than an assortment of sweet treats! If you ever want to make the paint washable you can use paint made for glass that is curable {you bake it in the oven}. Your paper projects are really pretty too!
ReplyDeleteJenna
This is so absolutely darling, Linda. I just love it, and I love that you re-make it for different occasions. I love your painting too, and the pretty place mats are perfect for Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteHow delightfully pink! And full of sweet treats for Valentine's! I would never have thought to paint just the base and the knob but I really like the effect.
